PURAC SECURES DRINKING WATER IN GOTHENBURG
Purac has signed a contract with Göteborg Vatten for the supply of an Ultrafiltration (UF) - plant to Lackarebäck Water treatment works. The delivery is part of Gothenburg's major effort to secure the need for clean and safe drinking water. The agreement for the investment of ultrafiltration and expanded production capacity of Lackarebäcks Water treatment works were a subject for Gothenburg City Council May 6, 2010
Gothenburg is today supplied with drinking water from two water works, except Lackarebäck also Alelyckan. Göteborg Vatten has from a series of risk assessments identified a number of areas to be taken care of to ensure drinking water supply in the future. The most important are the following:
- Increased knowledge about microbiological hazards need to improve today's treatment in terms of separation of viruses and parasites
- The production capacity is not sufficient on each water work to supply Gothenburg on its own
- The risk of future climate change may affect the availability of clean water
The capacity at Lackarebäcks Water Treatment Works must therefore be expanded by 40%. After the expansion it can produce the city of Gothenburg average day needs of drinking water and at the same time equipped with UF membranes to minimize the risk for outbreak of waterborne diseases.
The plant will be built in three phases and total production capacity when the entire project is completed will be 186 000 m3/day. Then it becomes the largest membrane installation in Scandinavia and one of the largest in Europe. Contact person at Göteborg Vatten is Anna Johansson, Project manager.
For phase 1, i.e. 25% of the capacity will be installed; Purac’s order value is more than SEK 30 million. Together with the options for remaining ultrafiltration capacity, the total order value for Purac is app. SEK 100 million.
This project is a cooperation between Purac and Norit X-Flow, which is a leading a manufacturer of UF-membranes for treatment of drinking water.
