Purac supplies wastewater treatment plant at Stora Enso Fors
Environmental engineering company Purac in Lund has received an order for the development and upgrading of a effluent treatment plant at Stora Enso Fors board mills outside Avesta. The order is worth SEK 25 million.
- This is our first industrial order in Scandinavia for a long time and it feels very good. The willingness to invest in industry, mainly in the forest industry, has been low since the financial crisis in 2008, says Owe Sänneskog, Sales Director of Purac for the sales to industry.
Purac has previously built the plant at Stora Enso Fors. It was in the 1990s. Now it designs and builds a larger plant for biological pretreatment of wastewater treatment to reduce the load on the existing treatment plant. While Purac develops the existing treatment plant and complement it with a facility for more efficient chemical finishing of the treated wastewater from the mill.
Purac's part is the process design and delivery of all equipment. Stora Enso Fors is responsible for the civil construction and electrical installations.
- "The order value at 25 million SEK is a pretty normal supply for us. Purac's deliveries to the industrial sector tends to be between 20-50 million", says Owe Sänneskog.
Approximately one third of Purac's business consists of projects to industry. The rest are projects for water and wastewater treatment and biogas plants and also biogas purification in which the clients are mainly local authorities in Sweden and in other countries.
Purac's industrial customers are mainly in the forest and food industries.
- "There is a lot of water to be purified. We see a gleam now after the financial crisis and are discussing several projects with our industrial customers", says Owe Sänneskog.
There are more discussions within the industry about purchasing their own biogas plants. Waste water from industries contains organic materials that can be digested into biogas and then used for electricity and heat.
Purac has been supplying biogas plants for pulp and paper companies in Poland and China and hopes to also get orders from Swedish industrial companies.
